Jessie Hansen, MSW, turns kindness from a feel-good idea into a schoolwide experience students can put into action.
Jessie Hansen, MSW, is a nationally recognized youth speaker, author, and creator of Kindest Kid in the World, an elementary school experience that combines a high-energy assembly, student recognition, and a schoolwide kindness challenge.
For more than 20 years, Jessie has spoken to over one million students across North America. Her presentations blend personal storytelling, age-appropriate psychology, audience participation, and music to help students build empathy, regulate big emotions, strengthen relationships, and understand the impact their everyday choices have on others.
Jessie holds a B.S. in Psychology, a Master of Social Work, and a Leadership Certificate from the University of Notre Dame. She is currently completing her Doctorate of Social Work, where her research focuses on violence prevention and the psychology of kindness.
That research became the foundation for Kindest Kid in the World, an initiative designed to make kindness visible, celebrated, and actionable inside schools. Students do not simply hear about kindness. They see one of their own peers recognized for it and then participate in a schoolwide challenge that puts the message into practice.
Jessie also brings more than two decades of professional performance experience to the stage. She has released five solo albums, toured 36 states with the Broadway musical Footloose, and recorded vocals heard on America’s Got Talent, ESPN, and The Biggest Loser. Music remains a signature part of her school assemblies and helps create an experience elementary students remember.
Jessie’s goal is simple: help students see kindness as strength, leadership, and a choice they can make every day.

What if kindness became something students could see, celebrate, and practice throughout their school?
In this high-energy and interactive elementary school assembly, Jessie Hansen combines music, storytelling, audience participation, and age-appropriate psychology to help students understand how everyday choices can strengthen friendships, reduce hurtful behavior, and create a school where people feel seen and included.
Students learn why hurt can sometimes lead people to hurt others, how to manage big emotions before reacting, and why kindness takes courage, confidence, and leadership.
But the experience does not end when the assembly does.
The Kindest Kid in the World experience includes:
- HIGH-ENERGY STUDENT ASSEMBLY
-Jessie uses music, humor, storytelling, and student interaction to teach practical tools for empathy, emotional regulation, inclusion, and kindness. - KINDEST KID AWARD + CUSTOM CHILDREN’S BOOK
Before the event, the principal selects a student who consistently demonstrates kindness, compassion, and leadership.
– Jessie’s team works with the student’s family to create a professionally written and illustrated children’s book based on that student’s real acts of kindness. The winner is surprised during the assembly, and Jessie shares their story with the entire school, giving students a powerful example of what kindness looks like in real life. - 5-DAY SCHOOLWIDE KINDNESS CHALLENGE
– After the assembly, students are challenged to complete 5,000 acts of kindness in five days.
– Students receive a simple Kindness Tracker, and schools receive a family resource that allows parents and caregivers to participate at home.
– The result is more than a memorable assembly. It gives the entire school a practical way to turn inspiration into action.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Understand the Hurt Cycle: Recognize how pain and frustration can lead to hurtful behavior and how empathy can interrupt that cycle.
- Regulate Big Emotions: Practice simple, age-appropriate tools for pausing and responding thoughtfully instead of reacting impulsively.
- See Kindness as Leadership: Understand that kindness builds confidence, trust, character, and respect.
- Strengthen Belonging: Identify practical ways to help classmates feel seen, valued, included, and supported.
- Turn Empathy Into Action: Participate in a schoolwide challenge that makes kindness visible and measurable throughout the campus.

Four proven tools that can take your life from average to extraordinary.
Jessie takes a research-based approach to teach the importance of making good choices. She gives students four proven tools that can take their lives from average to extraordinary. She addresses healthy vs. toxic relationships, bullying prevention, lessons from history’s greatest leaders and she does all this while sharing personal, hilarious stories, and dynamic pop music.
Learning Outcomes:
- Tool #1: Choose to believe in yourself.
- Tool #2: Choose to outsmart the bullies.
- Tool #3: Choose to set healthy boundaries.
- Tool #4: Choose to forgive and move forward.
Jessie was a big hit! Her charming personality, powerful singing, friendliness, and interactive presentation captured the students’ hearts. We received many compliments from parents as students talked about Jessie at home.
McMeans Junior High School • Grade 6-12 Students
In this presentation, Jessie shares her story of experiencing traditional school discipline first hand and the negative impacts that came with it. It was only when her principal decided to invest in her and think outside the box that they were able to find something that actually worked instead of traditional suspension. Because of that intervention and effort on the part of her dedicated administrator, Jessie is now a therapist who works with at-risk teenagers in a residential treatment program. She is working toward her doctorate degree with her research focus being positive discipline.
Learning Outcomes:
- The audience will walk away with a better understanding of what motivates disruptive behavior in the first place. If we understand that, we can better handle difficult situations with compassion and patience.
- Tried and true reaction tools. So much of effective discipline is how we react as adults. We have to check our own baggage.
- Three effective consequences that are guaranteed to help teens think, open their minds, and also know that they are seen as human beings who are LEARNING how to be human.
We loved Jessie's message and have received plenty of positive feedback from both members and advisers.
